Put a record on the timeline
Description

<ol>
<li>Click on the Records tab and open the record you'd like to connect to the timeline. </li>
<li>Click on the <strong>Styles</strong> tab, and click in the <strong>Widgets</strong> box. Select SIMILE Timeline.</li>
<li>Scroll down to the <strong>Dates</strong> field set.</li>
<li>Enter s <strong>Start Date</strong>. Use the format yyyy-mm-dd (for example, 2016-10-21).</li>
<li>Enter an <strong>End Date </strong>(if appropriate).</li>
<li>Click <strong>Save</strong> at the bottom of the form. The map should appear as a span on the timeline.</li>
<li>Next, let’s configure the record so that it’s only visible on the map between those two dates (right now it is always “on”). Go down to the <strong>Dates</strong> field set and enter “1854-01-01” in the <strong>After Date</strong> input and “1905-01-01” in the <strong>Before Date</strong> field. Now, the map will only be visible when the “center” line on the timeline falls between those dates.</li>
<li>Click <strong>Save</strong> and close the form.</li>

Configure your timeline

<div>Open your exhibit in editing mode.</div>
<ol>
<li>Click on the <strong>Plugins</strong> dropdown at the top of the editing panel and select the "SIMILE Timeline" option.</li>
<li>Enter a date into the "Default Date" field. This is the date that the timeline will automatically focus on when the exhibit starts. It is usually best to set the default date a little earlier than your first record.</li>
<li>Have a look at the "Interval Unit" dropdown and choose the interval that works for you. (You can always change these settings later.)</li>
<li>Drag the "Interval Pixels" input down to around 50. (This determines the width between the tick marks representing time units selected in the last step.)</li>
<li>Finally, set the "Tape Height". I often use 25. This sets the vertical height of the “span” graphics used to represent duration events on the timeline.</li>
<li>Click <strong>Save</strong> at the bottom.</li>

<li>select "Neatline" from the dashboard view</li>
<li>find your exhibit, click on "exhibit settings"</li>
<li>click in the "Widgets" field, select "SIMILE Timeline"</li>
<li>save exhibit</li>
